Why the Business Institute?
The Business Institute is a non-credit business certificate program designed for high school students who're in the 12th grade at the time they apply to Dallas ACAP, but have graduated from high school at the time they participate in Dallas ACAP. Selected Juniors may be invited to participate in this program based on having met established criteria.
The Business Institute certificate is the next best thing to adding a job or internship to your resume. You'll experience all of the other benefits of ACAP Week (e.g., Corporate Tour, Executive Roundtable/Dinner, Talent Show, Social Activity, etc.). However, during this high-powered week, you'll take a more in-depth view of college life and careers in business. You will also hear from successful business professionals who're actively involved in mentoring and developing young people. You will engage in meaningful dialogue on various topics of interest, apply for and interview for scholarships (optional), compete in the Group Project, prepare a Career Profile and resume, and create a LinkedIn profile page.
You'll attend sessions in the SMU Cox School of Business, use the same computer lab(s), and stay in the same dorm (Ware Residential Commons), as will all other Dallas ACAP students. You'll receive comprehensive course materials that will serve as valuable resources after ACAP Week ends. This certificate indicates to college admissions personnel and potential employers that you've explored the essentials of business careers from a prestigious NABA program (Dallas ACAP) held on the campus of a top-ranked business school (SMU).
When you successfully complete the program, you'll earn a non-credit Dallas ACAP Business Institute Certificate.
