Wayne Rowe was a senior in high school and had applied for one of the NABA DFW's scholarships. He was granted one of the five $1,000 awards at the Scholarship Reception. Nora O'Garro ( formerly Ramzy), who was the ACAP Director at the time, approached Wayne and asked if he had applied for ACAP? He stated “no”. After Nora explained what the program was about, he was very interested, but due to vacation plans his mother had made, Wayne felt he could not participate.
Nora took the opportunity to share the benefits to his mother who made the decision to cancel their vacation as she felt it was the ideal opportunity for Wayne, especially since ACAP was going to be held on the campus of SMU and he had already been accepted to SMU for the fall. Wayne spent the summer of 2004 in Dallas ACAP. Remember “Mom Knows Best”. Not only was that a good decision, it was one of the best decisions that has had a lasting relationship with Wayne Rowe. Wayne has grown from Mighty Man to Mightier Man. He not only has continued his relationship with ACAP, but he has also mentored others along the way, and fulfilled the motto "Lifting as We Climb".
Wayne went to school at SMU (Southern Methodist University) majored in Accounting, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from SMU (top 5% of class), (3.94 cumulative GPA). Wayne became the founding member and President of the SMU Student Chapter of NABA; named Most Outstanding Accounting Major of the 2008 Graduating Class at SMU, and was the Winner of the SMU Toastmasters Speaker Series Competition ($5,000 scholarship reward).
After completing his undergraduate work at SMU, Wayne attended UTD (University of Texas at Dallas), majored in Accounting and Information Management, and graduated from the Masters Program in the top 5% of his class (3.93 cumulative GPA).
Wayne also completed all four (4) parts of the CPA Exam on his first attempt in April/May 2009.
Wayne currently works at The Beck Group, where he is an Accounting Manager.
Wayne's advice to students:
“Be relentless in everything that you aspire to do. Do not settle for mediocrity. There will always be those who have been given more opportunities to be successful, but do not let that deter you. All you need is one. Seize that opportunity. Be focused on your goals and never lose sight of them. Do not allow doubt (or doubters) to enter your subconscious. You can do great things when you believe in yourself. Eventually, others will see your efforts and try their best to place you in a position to be successful (think NABA--"Lifting as We Climb").
