Methods of Instruction
During this week-long residency camp, students will experience various instructional methodologies: facilitated classroom discussion, group work, self-directed learning, collaborative learning (sharing experiences, listening to peer students, working together to find answers), etc. Attempts are made to appeal to a variety of learning styles: visual, auditory, and tactical. In addition, students are expected to use their computer lab time wisely.
Executive Director Rights
The Executive Director reserves the right to modify the Course Syllabus at any time during the week of the residency camp. The ACAP student is responsible for contacting the Executive Director or his/her assigned ACAP Counselor to clarify any information pertaining to the syllabus that is unclear to the student.
Expectations of Students
ACAP students are expected to:
*Submit all assignments by the due date. All assignments are important.
*Read assigned work in the curriculum as well as other articles and materials.
*Respond to all messages from ACAP Administrators in a timely manner.
*Participate in class discussions and other methods of instruction.
*Maintain a positive attitude, good work habits, and do his/her best at all times.

In addition to the above Pre-Camp Assignments, ACAP Participants are also expected to complete various assignments during ACAP Week. The due dates and point values for those assignments are reflected on the Master Grade Sheet and are further explained below.
What I Am Looking for in a College or University (College Assessment), (10 points)
Choosing the right college for you is more than the name on the diploma. What should you look for when choosing a college? Consider some of the following: academic majors available, affordable cost, location, on-campus facilities and amenities, student activities, and whether you feel at home while on campus. Using the template provided, consider these factors as you evaluate the college(s) of your choice. Submit the completed assignment to your Home Room Counselor.
My Career Journey (10 points)
A Career Journey is a summary of your job, experiences, training, etc. (a roadmap). When creating your career journey, consider the potential career options, the growing job market, careers that match your current and anticipated skills, the qualifications needed, education and training, and the salaries, benefits and rewards. Using the Career Profile you began during the Pre-Camp Assignments, make any necessary modifications and prepare Your Career Journey profile based on additional knowledge you've gained through personal research, from informational interviews, and/or from your interactions with business professionals during ACAP Week.
Informational Interview(s) (10 points)
An informational interview is a conversation in which you seek insights on a career path, an industry, a company, and/or general career advice from someone with expertise and knowledge in the area of interest to you. You will have several opportunities to conduct an informational interview during ACAP Week. Using the template provided here, conduct an informational interview of a professional you meet during ACAP Week. Submit your electronic form to your Home Room Counselor who will grade this assignment.
Optional: Additional points can be earned for additional informational interviews submitted.
Personal Budget (20 points)
A personal budget is a summary that compares and tracks your income for a defined period of time, typically a month or a year. Past spending and personal debt are considered when creating a personal budget. A personal budget should also include an allocation for saving. Using the template provided, complete your personal budget for your first year of college. Be prepared to discuss your personal budget in class during ACAP Week.
SMART Goals (10 points):
A goal is an idea of the future or desired result that a person or a group of people envision, plan, or commit to achieve. Goal setting increases motivation and performance. Using the SMART acronym and the template provided, write your top three (3) personal goals and your top three (3) professional or career goals.
Group Project (20 points, individual participation):
The Group Project is the capstone project for the week. There is a separate grading or rubric for this group competition. See the Group Project Manual for details. However, as indicated below, a student may earn a maximum of 20 points for his/her individual contribution and/or work with his/her Project Team. Thus, a student earns an individual grade as well as has the ability to compete along with his/her Project Team. This Group Project participation grade is awarded by the Group Project Counselor by Thursday, July 1, 2021.
